The Victory Gate, Siem Reap

#13 of 57 in Historic Sites in Siem Reap
Monument · Hidden Gem · Historic Site
One of the five holy gateways into the ancient city, The Victory Gate was the one the king used to send his army into battle and then welcome his victorious warriors home. Built in the 12th century, its carved heads leading to the gate and carved faces at the head of the gate represent gods and demons facing in the four cardinal directions. The gate itself provides a good photo opportunity from the city walls, with plenty of scenery to fill the frame.
