Simplon Pass, Brig

Landmark · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Located between Lepontine Alps and Pennine Alps, Simplon Pass links Brig in Switzerland with Domodossola in Italy. Now usually open in the winter, this high mountain pass was used as early as the Stone Age. Until the 17th century, it was generally crossed by mercenaries and smugglers. Today, hikers use a historic mule trail to go from Brig to Gondo, where they can cross into Italy. In a renovated inn in Simplon Village, two museums provide additional reasons to visit. Remember that most people can hike the route in about three days, with overnight stays in Simplon Village and on the pass itself. • It’s a nice road with a panoramic view of the Alpes, the nature is amazing, there is a point to stop and have a coffee break. It’s a nice road trip.
  • Beautiful scenic road on the Swiss side. We passed from it in July to cross from Italy to go to Tasch & visit the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
