Create an itinerary including Jesuitenkirche
The first large-scale Baroque church in Switzerland, Jesuitenkirche was constructed in 1666 for the Jesuits. It sits dramatically on the banks of the Reuss River, its symmetrical onion domes clearly recognizable in the city's skyline. Step inside to witness the building's even more impressive interior. Elaborate frescoes, brightly colored domes, a magnificent organ, large chandeliers, and a gilded altar all contribute to the splendor of this historic church. Take time to examine the red marble in the side chapels closely--they are actually the result of clever paintwork. • I didn't expect to see onion domes on a church in Switzerland. The exterior is pretty and the interior is impressive and very light an airy being mostly white, as opposed to so many church interiors....  more

  • What an interesting church. So different from the gothic cathedrals. Really enjoyed looking at the light and bright interior facade. And I loved that they had plants by the altar - haven't seen that before!
  • Light and bright church. Well maintained, clean and no entry fee. On the water and in the main center of town.
