Create an itinerary including Botanischer Garten
Examine wild plants in an unconventional layout and bubble-shaped greenhouses filled with exotic species at Botanischer Garten. Run by Zurich's flagship university and developed near the edge of the campus, this oasis of greenery breaks away from the traditional design of other central European gardens by growing wild species of plants in an informal layout. Gardeners avoid systematic flowerbeds and allow nearly 9,000 different wild plants to bloom scattered across a total area of over 5.3 hectares (13 acres). Three tropical domes create ideal conditions for growing exotic plants from around the world, providing visitors with a chance to experience diverse natural ecosystems near the heart of a major urban center. • Three different geodesic domes with unique climates and a large park, right nearby the city center. The botanical garden is wonderfully maintained and completely free. You can walk to the lake (and enjoy a great view from the hillside along the way) in about 25 minutes. What a terrific free thing to do in Zürich when the weather is fair!
  • It's really beautiful, with lots of informative signs (most only in German) and a wide variety of plants. You can take a pram to most places too, all the paths are very well maintained. The three indoor areas are small, but lovely. Also there's a nice University cafe at the top on the hill.
